Ramatheola
Ramatheola means more for less, and was the Sesotho name given to Eli Benjamin, the kind trading store owner who settled in Rosendal in 1938. Our house used to be Eli Benjamin’s family home. One of his two trading stores is now a restaurant, Benjamin’s, known for the best waffles in South Africa (no lie!). Eli Benjamin was fluent in Sesotho and Afrikaans and the local community have fond memories of him and his family for their kindness and generosity during difficult times. In naming our house Ramatheola we pay tribute to Eli’s legacy.
Ramatheola is a homely self-catering two-bedroom house and is one of the oldest in Rosendal. Our home is cosy and comfortable – indeed a home-away-from-home. The bedrooms have beautiful views of the Witteberg mountain range. Guests are welcome to enjoy walks, fishing, cycling, or taking on the nearby hiking and cycling trails. The less energetic can relax over a coffee or a glass of wine at one of the eateries close to our house.
